And so we settled down for a 2000 points game tonight, putting my Marine Corps (aka Emperor's Children) vs his Pax Arcadia.
Now, I made an army building mistake, in that I had forgotten that if a transport gets destroyed, you get one save for your troops or they are dead. So it wasn`t the best idea to take all regular marines with their own personal Rhino in hindsight...
My force consited of a Daemon princess (aka CO), and 2 commanders to lead them. Further it had 8 bases of Marines, each with a dedicated Rhino, two SPG Missile Systems, two Land Raiders, a grav bike and two Recce bikes. I detahced a commander to both missile tanks, and one to both land raiders and the grav bike, while all the main mechanised infantry joined the CO.
Nemesis brought along his Pax Arcadia, and a rather massed army to boot. I don`t know the exact names, but he had a CO and two commanders, an artillery officer guiding two off table artillery pieces, two recce units and a scout, 8 stands of regular infantry, 3 stands each of Specialist and Conscript infantry, 2 Heavy Tanks, 2 Battle tanks, 4 cruiser tanks and another medium AFV.
I would break as soon as 8 units remained on the table thanks to my doctrines, he would break at 13 left over...
Both forces deployed and the game was a foot... with my second command immediatly being a double 1, resulting in the Rhinos racing forward and unloading. Because I had already learned the above mentioned flaw in the plan the hard way right there due to opportunity fire from the Pax force.
The SPG`s where destroyed and supressed in his first turn, this is now the second game I brought them along, and the second time they do nothing. They will become relegated to off table artillery, and the search for epic Razorbacks, Vindicators and Predators will be on in earnest now!
After already losing 4 units, as the Grav Bike bit the dust as well to opportunity fire of his massed tanks, I finally knocked down the first of his troops.
The Rhino's hid in the city for now, hopefully coming out for a quick strike or some gap plugging later on.
The next turn probably was my best, as the two Land Raiders started massacring his flank and knock out some infantry and tanks, suppressing a heap of stuff on the way.
Unfortunatly, we both had a real crappy turn after that though, with both sides botching all but 3 orders divided over all our commanders...
My infantry started to get pinned and wiped out now facing his biggest flank, as they wanted to push onwards and take out his infantry units to force his break point, considering I was dangerously close to mine now...
But alas, this failed, and with only 3 Rhino`s, a recce bike and a Land Raider left, I conceded the battle and gave victory to the Pax.
A great battle once again, and FWC remains a fantastic ruleset to play every now and again0. We just should crank up that "again" a bit more this year to be honest...
