Azur Lane

The 300th anime I'll be marking as watched over on my MAL account (feel free to friend me there if you have an account), and it was, well, weird...

The series is all about naval warfare post the world war, and many famous ships are appearing in it... but with a serious twist.

Because all the ships are also young girls, that can get a sort of armour build from the actual vessels, and live a normal girly life on base outside that.  Yeah, it sounds weird and it is quit hard to put in exact writing to be honest.  Maybe the fans of the video game get it more, but I never played that one.

But the story then.  A few years ago, the four great navies of the (second world war era) world, being the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and Japan united to defeat an alien naval invasion of creatures called Sirens.  But in the aftermath, they split in two factions.  The former two became the Azur Lane, the latter Red Axis.

The reason was a difference in vision, wether to never use Siren technology versus adapting it for own strenghtening.  But then the Sirens return through manipulation of the Sakura Empire (aka Japan) carriers Akagi and Kaga.  This at first causes misunderstandings putting the two blocks at war against each other, before uniting to fight a common enemy.

Now, as I said, it is weird.  You get for example the girls (that being, the battleships, aitrcraft carriers and others) to go crazy about... a panty sale.

I didn't rate it to high in the end, but I must say it had two greatly redeeming qualities: the opening theme by May'n is epic, and then there is this sequence from the first episode...

So yeah, let's class it as an average series in my book, though the actual naval battles "pre morphing into duelling girls" are always cool to see as cannons thunder!
