The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

Long awaited and a true, beautiful masterpiece.  Let me be clear on that.

This 10 episode prequel series to the 1982 Jim Henson puppeteer movie captures all the magic, and grimness, of the classic.

No CGI made series, but with true puppetry, and it shows in a good way.

Years before the events of the movie, a millenium since Mother Aughra had given the crystal to the SkekSis, the evil creatures discover a way to prolong their life by draining the life essence out of Gelflings.  One palace guard, Rian, is witness to this and wants to reveal the truth about their overlords.

In the meantime, a Grottan Gelfling named Deet encounters a strange disease in the core of the world, called The Darkening, and embarks on a quest to save the world of Thra from this disease.
Events soon spiral out of control, as the Skeksis drain more and more for their own insatiable lust, while princess Bre'a discovers an ancient symbol and starts questioning SkekSis laws.  When Mother Aughra awakens, she realises the SkekSis have tricked her and she starts uniting the Gelflings in a quest to overthrow the evil masters.

Make no mistake, this is a great series and it is lovingly created.  Ever since the first rumours appeared, I have been looking forward to this, and I enjoyed every drop of the visual fest and strong story.

And if you wonder about the open ending?  Go watch the movie!
