Movie night with Noshi, as we went to the Kinepolis in Antwerp for this anime movie.
Yes, the finale of the Quintuplets, at last!
Though that is also a bit sad, because it means the end of this lovely innocent series that I really enjoyed, but I still have all the manga to go still. And in this movie, we will learn who has become Futaro's bride in the end! As I said after season 2, my money is on Yotsuba, as she is the one putting in the least effort, always hovering around in the back, though in season 1 she did declare she liked him. She was also the first to go along with his tutoring plans and the "glue" between him and the other girls, as well as the quintuplet he met all those years ago. So let's sit down and see who it has become in the end!
The story takes place during the last school festival of the Quintuplets and Futaro before they will move on to their lives and dreams, and if they can manage to get past the entrance exams and all. And while some of the sisters decide not to pursue academic careers, Futaro still has a sense of fullfilment in how they got where they where. But he has a secret, as he has developped a crush as well on one of the quints, and at the end of the festival he is going to make his choice known.
We get to see how he spends the three days of the schoolfestival with them, and they all end up kissing him (bar Itsuki) one way or another. This is also a way for each of the sisters to cope with the fact of they might not become the one he has chosen, until the moment arrives that he is going to make it known. They all go to a seperate classroom, and he will only go to one of them. And that is... Yotsuba!!! I was right woohoo. But not before seemingly the quintuplets biological father, who ran off when their mother turned out pregnant, tries to get in their lives, only to have their dad step in.
She doesn`t believe it and runs away, but he catches up to her, telling her how she was the one that kept him going, and how he could be open with her. It also turns out that ever since their meeting years ago, Yotsuba was at first a hardworking student, to the point she imploded on herself and wanted to set out from her sisters, which is also why she wore her typical ribbon. But over the years, the others overcame her on school levels, resulting in why they had to switch schools and Yotsuba eversince became the one trying to help out others as she feels herself not good enough for anything.
But her sisters, some reluctantly, grant their permission for her to become Futaro's girlfriend and they start going out on dates, including the playgarden they had that wonderful unstressed evening during one of the episodes of the series.
Years later the sisters, with Ichika now a famous actress in America, Nino and Miku running a small restaurant and Itsuki a teacher like her mother, meet up with Yotsuba. They prepare for the wedding day, playing the Quintuplets game one more time, but Futaro passes with flying colours as he identifies each and every one of them, telling them how they grown.
A truly nice movie, and at times it was hard to hold back a tear even in the romanticism and Yotsuba's story. It was also from back in the days of the very first Pokemon movie that I watched an anime movie on big screen in the theatre, and that was a very pleasant experience, definintly worth repeating!
