Wonder Woman 1984

Time for some fun entertainment on a lazy friday evening, with this DCEU movie.

And in introductory discussion between me and Noshi if Gal Gadot is a gorgeous woman or not (I was camp "meeeh" btw).

The movie starts with a sort of sports event, in which a young Diana participates against several other older amazon's.  She takes the lead, but when falling of her horse she takes a shortcut to regain it.  This might have her win, but her mother stops her right before doing so, telling she has to bide her time instead of cheating.

Forward to 1984, where she still remembers Steve, her boyfried from the first World War she still misses gravely while preventing crimes in Washington.  She meets barbara, a nerdy scientist without friends at her job in the Smithsonian, who is investigating a strange citrine stone.  They think it is a tourist stone, while it is actually a powerfull wish fulfilling stone created by the god of Lies.

A failed business con-man, Max Lord, knows this as well and by seducing Barbara steals the stone, making himself into a wishfulfilling man.  In the meantime, both Barbara and Diana have their accidental wishes fulfilled, the former becoming sexy and strong, the latter seeing Steve return in the body of another man.  But Diana realises she needs to stop Max Lord, as he unwillingly throws the world in a crisis, running up to all the countries launching their nuclear weapons.

In order to do so, she needs to convince everyone in the world to revoke their wishes he has granted them.  She has to overcome Barbara for this first, but using a global casting system she can convince the world in the end to do so, and as Max sees the error of his ways as his son is threatened for his life as nuke's fly, he renounces the power and reunites with his boy.

So, a typical superhero movie, and the 80s sauce gives it that nice nostalgia feeling.  But while DCEU is picking up nicely stepping away from all the dark and gritty stuff, it still is not on par as the Marvel movies... yet.
