Kiss Me First - Lottie Moggach

About 1.5 years ago, Noshi and me watched the series on Netflix based off the book, and I quit enjoyed it.

Heck, so much I wanted to read the book.

But where the series goes about a group of online gaming friends, and one by one they start dying, manipulated by a bloke called Adrian, this was a whole different thing.

heck, I kind of think only the names of the four main characters, being Leila, Jonty, Tess and Adrian, are the only touching points.  Of course, the book is older, and MMO's where not as big back then.  Instead, the hype was Facebook, so most of the story resolves around that medium instead.

Leila is approached through a forum by Adrian to take over the accounts and "online life" of Tess, who plans on comitting suicide.  To that end, and to prevent family and friends from knowing, Leila impersonates herself as her, and even falls in love with one of her old boyfriends virtually.  But then Adrian is exposed as being the leader of a suicide cult...

Now, the thing is, the book and series differ incredibly.  For example, apart from a Skype chat, Leila and Tess never met, something quite different in the series where they where besties (even with benefits at one point).  Nor does she fall in love with Jonty, is the whole chase part and the recluse house something new in the series... heck, it's just two totally different entities.

So what did I think about the book?  It isn't bad, but reading it 10 years after the big Facebook hype, it feels sadly dated and old-fashioned... leaving a bit of an unintresting feel on me as it is supposed to grab you with it's "current day online living" catchphrase.

It was okay to read, but I fear it won't be remembered long in my mind....
