Deca-Dence

The latest sci-fi anime I watched, this 12 episode long series was released in 2020.

And it's first impressions gave a mixture between Mortal Engines and Mad Max, with a flavour of Starship Troopers added in.

Except, it seems it's all a hunting safari for an alien race, and the remaining humans are an attraction as an as good as extinct species... But when Natsume, a human "bug" aka a glitch in the control matrix meets kaburago, a high level hero, a friendship blossoms.  This leads to the defeat of the Alpha Gadoll, only to have both humans and Gears to learn there is more beyond, and Earth is completely overrun.

However, his actions lead to Kaburagi being labelled as a bug himself, and he must overcome his sentence to reconnect with Natsume.  He hitches up the plan afterwards to destroy the Gafoll factory and bring the game to an end.  Natsume learns that way that everything is actually an artificial creation... and when threatened with extinction, life, even if created, finds a way!

Now, the biggest grief I have with this series, while it is a good story, is the difference between "inside the dome" which is drawn like a good anime, and the outside world which looks like a series for 3 year olds.
