Dune

At long last it is here, the most anticipated movie for me of the past years.

And critics say it might become the Star Wars or Lord of the Rings of this generation, so that are some high acclaims.

The Spice is Life!  Spice, the most precious material in the universe, is the only thing that allows interstellar travel to be possible.  And it can only be found on the desert planet of Arakis, or Dune as it is commonly known.

After more then 80 years, the mining of spice is taken away by the Emperor from the brutal House Harkonnen and given to the noble House Atreides, led by Duke Leto Atreides.  He, together with his Bene Gesserit wife Jessica, have a son, Paul Atreides, and prophecies seem to point to him being "The One", a mythical Gene Besserit that can alter the shape of the universe.

But there are great political machinations by the Emperor at play.  Fearing the wealth of the Harkonnen's, or the ideals of Atreides, he sees both houses as a threat to his throne, and by switching the ownership of Arakis he hopes to instigate a war that weakens both houses.  And so it comes to pass, as the Harkonnen's, secretly backed by the Emperor, attack the planet and bring down the House Atreides and believing to have ended the bloodline right there.

However, Paul managed to escape amongst all that carnage together with his mother, and seeks the Fremen.  These native desert dwellers of the planet sees them both as a promised sign in their religion, and Paul has had many visions of him leading them in a Holy war to cleanse the universe...

This is a great movie!  Period!  Stunning visuals, good acting, an awesome soundtrack by who else then Hans Zimmer.  And then to think this is basically the "setting the scene" movie without that many action or adventure just yet.  I also love Oscar Isaac as Leto Atreides, he does a fantastic job bringing the regality of the character to life, and to bad he won`t be in the second movie for obvious reasons.

It's fantastic news the second part has been greenlit, because if you know the books (or saw the old movie), you know what is still to come!
