Takt Op Destiny

A big hype for the winter season as it was made by both Mappa and Madhouse, I finally gotten round to watching this music powered sci-fi series.

Though my first thought was, would it have better music then Macross Frontier?

Ine day, black stones fell from to the Earth, and mosnters blackened out the sky.  But then one day the Musicarts appeared, who together with Conductors fought the monsters with the power of music.  The year is 2047 and music is outlawed in the United States to prevent the monsters, called D2, to cause more havoc due to their hatred for it.  Takt finds himself transformed into a Conductor when a D2 attacks him as he plays a piano, and a girl called Destiny appears to fight the beast.

Together with Anna, they embark on a roadtrip to reach New York to the Symphonica Headquarters.  But we learn how Cosette was killed in an attack of a D2, and how she and Takt became Conductor and Musicart, bound together in destiny.  They are saved by another Conductor and Musicart arriving, Lenny and Titan, who teaches them on how to function as a tandem.  Together, they take the long journey to New York to seek out the Symphonica to train them underway before their ways part after Las Vegas.

They meet a train of the Symphonica with a Conductor that has been actively searching for them, allowing them to repair their car before continuing their journey.  When Takt attends a jazz club and plays the piano, those present are genuinly touched and he decides to compose his own music.  They find out that a Master of the Symphonica, Felix, with the aid of his Musicart Hell, can actually summon and control D2's and want to cull the remainder of humanity.  And that he was responsible for the dead of Cosette.

Hell quickly defeats them, forcing them to retreat and tend to Takt's wounds, as Lenny and Titan arrive outside the battlefield where Anna awaits their return.  Hell chases them down, facing Cosette, but Lenny and Titan interfere to buy them some time and talks things out.  Takt and Cosette return to the battle, better tuned then before.  As they gain the upperhand, the Symphonica intervenes and by order of the Grand Master strip Felix of his duties, and Hell abandons him on the spot, leaving him crazed and desperate as the others rejoin Anna.

After some relaxation time, Lenny calls Takt, sounding to say farewell.  But Takt convinces him to tell him the truth of all that happened in those years.  Together they go to the headquarters of the Symphonica, facing the Grand Master to stop him.  When Lenny gets gravely injured, he unleashes the huge power inside Titan.

They force the Grand Master back, and go after him, finding the Symphonica full of D2's.  Together with their allies they gained down the road, they enter the building, to confront the end of the thread once and for all, a being merged from Heaven and Hell called Orpheus... and all that stands in their way to take the Grand Master down at last.

Did it have the musical power of Macross Frontier?  No, but goddamn that part where Lenny falls and the power of classical music in that scene.  The series for me did not live up to the hype of when it was announced and airing, it isn`t bad, but if definitly wasn`t a stand out either.

Oh, but Hell.  Darn.
