Before there was the hype of Squid Game, there was the far better Alice in Borderland on Netflix.
And now the second season of this manga adaption (it still is weird to see a live action instead of an anime adaption I must say) is out.
We find our players forced into the slaughterfest of the King of Spades game, and the froup is being split up. In order to escape, four of them join the King of Clovers game, together with Niragi who survived the inferno at the beach. Their opponents are a former rockband, and the current King of Clovers. Arisu hopes that playing the game, he can get some answers to return to their world.
They overcome the odds by a rouse, that causes Tatta to sacrifice himself and finally finding himself being useful for once, but Arisu can't really get much answers out of the King, who he considers a friend before the King is killed by the laser together with his friends.
Chishiya in the meantime, seperated from the group during the Spades slaughter, finds himself in a prison where he must play a game of trust to weed out the Jack of Hearts, causing people to quickly lose their minds and go paranoia. But together with a mass murderer and a con man he figures out the Jack of Hearts and wins the game.
In the meantime Usagi and Arisu find a film telling part of the story in the world, but the King of Spades catches up to them. Arisu is saved / captured by a figure from the past though... Aguni, and his new friend Heiya. They try to set an ambush for the King of Spades, but fail, as Arisu is split up from them. He reunites with Usagi, and they enter a game of tag to help a young child survive.
Ann in the meantime has been trekking outside Tokyo to see the rest of this world, only to find that it is surrounded by a forest and large craters instead. In the meantime in the tag game, Usagi confronts the players if they really want to stay in the games forever. She convinces them and they beat the game.
With only two games left now, Asiru, Chishiya and Niragi converge, a gunfight resulting in Chishiya getting wounded saving Usagi. As the King of Spades appear, the group sets a trap but is taken out one by one before they manage to blow him up. With all their friends gravely wounded and near dead, Asiru and Usagi go to the final game, the Queen of Hearts who turns out to be Mira, one of the rulers from The Beach. She reveals she also designed the game that killed Arisu's friends, and that while only wanting to play a game of croquet engages in severe mind games, in order to make Arisu quit and lose. Usago snaps him out of their hallucinations, and all the surviving players are given a choice: remain in the game, or return to their own world.
It is revealed a meteor had hit Tokyo, and that all where in a sort of waiting room between life and dead. It turns out their hearts stopped for about a minute, and they don`t remember the events or the people of the other world, though some recognise each other still like Arisu and Usagi, who accidentally meet at vending machine and go for a walk together...
I really loved this series, and considering it's a manga adaption, I`m really tempted to collect that series and see if there are big differences in the original story and the Netflix adaption. But this is definitly worth watching!
