1899

A new prestigious series at Netflix, that takes place at the end of the 19th century.

The story is about a vessel, Kerberos, which carries passengers to new York, among them Maura Franklin, one of the first female british doctors.

While making the crossing, they receive a radio signal of their already 4 months missing sister ship Prometheus.  They find it, yet seemingly all the 1400+ passengers have disappeared bar a young boy that carries with him a mysterious triangle, and a man that slips onboard Kerberos unseen.

In the meantime, the captain is having hallucinations of his deceased family, whom his wife has burned alive.  He decides to return to Prometheus with doctor Franklin to look for the captain's log when a young girl died for no apparent reason and with no apparent cause.  He shows Maura a strange device inside the engine room, telling her he has no idea what it can do, as well as the mysterious tiled shafts.

In the meantime on Kerebos a mutiny breaks out, as the norwegian family of the deceased girl want to take the young boy, linking him to the deaths that are now becoming more common on the vessel.  The Kerebos, towing Prometheus, enters a heavy fog, but suddenly the fog and the Prometheus have disappeared as the mysterious man used a device activating the panel in Prometheus engine room, and Kerebos suddenly finds itself back on the course before they received the signal.

They capture him in the end and throw him overboard, but later in the dining room where the "rebels" against the mutiny are held, he reappears in a cupboard moments after the captain confronted Maura that her name was on Prometheus passengers manifest.  Suddenly a horn sounds and a bell starts ringing, and almost all of the passengers and crew walk in a zombielike state to the sides of the ship, throwing themselves overboard.

Maura and the Captain discover secret passages leading to their trauma of the past in the black shafts, as the steering man receives again the message sink ship.  Maura's father owns the ships it seems, and is someone intrested on experimenting on the human psyche.  As he receives an update on Project Kerebos, he walks to the window overlooking a wasteland with a large copy of the black pyramid the young boy has with him.

As the remaining crew continues to try and figure our what is happening, Maura and the captain return to the asylum, finding it surrounded by the ship's hull.  The stranger from Prometheus reveals himself to be Maura's husband, but she doesn't remember ever getting married.  In the ensuing struggle he warps the captain away, he finds himself on the bridge of Prometheus, surrounded by a lot more copies of the derelict vessel.

Daniel tells Maura they are captured in a simulation that keeps looping over and over, and that only she has the power to stop it.  In order to do so she must remember a code, which is a key in her locket, that can end the simulation before it shuts down, which is in progress as reality seems to end in the form of a huge storm.  The Kerberos is swallowed by the sea, only to end near Prometheus and the captain, as this is seemingly the archive of failed simulations.

But Elliot, the boy, learns the truth that the simulations where actually made by his parents and that his granddad is caught in there just as much as them.  It turns out Maura's brother is actually running the program, and that as she wakes up at last, she finds herself aboard a spaceship travelling to another world, 200 years later then the events on the boat took place, namely in october 2099...

Okay, so that was an ending I didn`t see coming, as I went from first "Bermuda Triangle" to "mental hospital patients" halfway the season, but it turns out to be neither, so that is great.  Sadly, while highly appraised and succesful, Netflix has cancelled the second season (and potential third), but while the ending is a cliffhanger, it still can be a nice wrap-up in the end.

Great season for sure!
