A new movie starting Jason Momoa (hence why Noshi spotted it), this is based on a comic from the 1900's, Little Nemo.
Surely they changed the protagonist from a boy to girl, but that is not any problem for this movie in my idea.
Nemo and her father live in a lighthouse. One night, he must go out to help a ship in need, and she dreams of him drowning. As day comes, she gets the news her father indeed drowned that night at sea. She is placed as by his wishes with her estranged uncle Philip, a rather boring doorknob salesman who has totally no experience with children.
She has to go to school for the first time in life and adapt to a life in the city compared to the free spirited, home schooled life with her dad. But in her dreams, she travels to Slumberland, a dream realm. There she meets the wild and rogueish Flip, a satyr. It turns out that by finding wishing pearls in the Maelstrom of Nightmares, she can make her dreams come true.
She visits there every night, and while chased by Agent Green who wants to stop Flip as he is a sort of an anomaly in the dream world, and a big nightmare hunting her, they go out on an adventure through various people's dreams to find the pearls.
She learns that Flip is actually her uncle Philip, who hasn`t dreamt for years as he left his alter ego behind in the Slumberland. When she sails out to the lighthouse, she is caught in a storm, while at the same time she recovers the pearls in Slumberland. Refusing to wake up herself, she is in fear of drowning, but she uses her wish to wake up her uncle, who saves her life. Her toy pig however has grabbed another pearl, and she can see her dad once again.
In the waking world, she and her uncle bind more, he having recovered his wild streak, while every night they go of to Slumberland together...
So, it might not be a blockbuster movie, but it is one of those sweet, innocent yet entertaining evening fairy tale movies. And seeing Momoa in a not to serious role with his hulking posture is a fun change for once.
