We all know Aldi, for it's lovable cheap prices, and often as well for the jokes about inferior quality.
But is it so, because they do have some great stuff in their own household brands.
And they also have a couple of beers, so of course, in order to discover some more this year, I went to my local Aldi store and grabbed a can of every one of the various beers they had at current, from their own household branding, all brewed by Brouwerij Martens in Bocholt.
Are they any good? Who knows, that is what we are here for to find out. Check me out on Untappd as well if you like, and you can see my ratings for these beers there!
But what are the ones I managed to obtain? Well, they had 4 different ones, three of them coming in half liter cans and one in a "regular" 33cl version.
So this are the ones that are thossed into the test this time:
Hopvil (4.9%, IBU 0)
A bit weird that a beer with hop in it's name has 0 IBU. But it is actually not that bad at all, just a siple no-nonsense, nothing special pilsner.
Hopvil Strong (8.5%, IBU 0)
So the souped up version of the above then? No, not at all. it has the % of a triple, but it is everyhting but it, more like a pilsner with something tasting off. It's not a horrible beer, it just is not good.
Mexicanos (5.9%, IBU 0)
Now, this isn`t my style of beer, but Noshi liked it, especially for the price it costs compared to the similar Desperados.
Buval (5%, IBU 0)
A watery, weak pilsner, nothing special to be honest.
So there we have it, some really cheap beers from Aldi. Two of them where definitly okay, one was so-so and one was downright bad. But considering the actual price of them, that is actually a better result then I estimated when I bought them!
